Wildlife of the Gobi Desert
The harsh conditions of the Gobi have forced the creatures that live there to adapt and survive. Although much of the desert consists of sandy or stony plains, the mountains, canyons, springs, marshes, and fitful river systems provide enough diversity of habitat to shelter an array of fascinating creatures. These include wild Bactrian camels, several species of bears, argali sheep, Siberian ibex, hulan or the Asiatic wild ass, wolves, black vultures, Asiatic long-eared hedgehogs, black-tailed and Mongolian antelope, and even the snow leopard in mountain ranges in and near the Gobi.
